Library membership is automatically granted to students and staff of the institution and to those teaching or studying on validated courses. Services available for you to use will vary depending on your membership category.
The library registration procedure for City St George's alumni, SCONUL Access users and other external readers is outlined below.
City St George's
Students
As soon as you register on your course you are a library member. Remember to bring your ID card with you to access the Library and borrow books.
Staff
New members of staff at City St George's are automatically registered as library members as part of your new starter or induction process with the University. Once you have obtained your ID card you will be able to access the library and borrow books. Your IT username and password enables you to access our online resources and keep up to date with your library account online.
St George's School of Health & Medical Sciences students and staff
Students and university staff based at our Tooting campus (St George’s Library) can access Libraries at the Clerkenwell and Moorgate campuses after completing a registration form:
Alumni
Former students who are members of the City St George's Alumni Network and who have their Alumni Network card are entitled to free reference use of the Library. You must bring your Alumni Network card when you visit.
Borrowing
A 1 year alumni library subscription costs £30. Alumni borrowers may have up to 5 items on loan at any time but are not able to borrow from some of our smaller collections, such as our LCS tests.
Online resources
Access to a limited number of online resources is provided by the Alumni Network. Please contact them for further details.
A limited selection of online journals and databases are available for alumni users on a dedicated computer terminal at both Northampton Square Library and the Business Library. You need to register for this service at the library help desk.
Visiting scholars
Registered visiting scholars are entitled to use library facilities on a reference only basis. Access to our libraries requires a valid ID card. Visiting scholars are entitled to access a limited selection of online resources on a dedicated computer terminal at Northampton Square Library and the Business Library. Registration for this service can be completed at the library help desk.
Validated course students and staff
City St George's validates selected courses from a number of institutions. Library privileges are only available to students on these specific courses. Students on these courses will have been issued with a regular ID card and will need to bring this card on each visit.
Academic staff involved in teaching on a City St George's validated course will need to register separately with Library Services. Library access and membership will be arranged through the Validation and Partnerships Office within the Student and Academic Services Directorate.
Short courses
Students attending short evening/weekend courses run by the Enterprise Office will be able to borrow books and access library study spaces after being issued with a pass or ID card. Please bring this to the library, along with your confirmation of enrolment on a current course.
External members
SCONUL Access
City St George's welcomes visitors who are members of the SCONUL Access scheme.
You must bring your home University ID card and your SCONUL Access approval email with you each time you visit the library.
Borrowing membership - bands A, B and C
Borrowing membership is given to users with Band A, B or C SCONUL Access membership from their home institution. SCONUL Access borrowers may borrow up to 5 items but will not be able to use our Short Loan collections or online resources. Fill in the SCONUL Access borrower registration form before you visit.
Reference only access - band R
Reference only access is provided to users with Band R membership from their home institution.
University of London
Academic and support staff, Postgraduate and Undergraduate students from University of London institutions not covered by the SCONUL Access scheme can access our libraries on a reference basis. Bring your home institution ID card to access City St George's libraries.
Access 25
The Access 25 scheme is open to Postgraduate research students and staff in the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries.
Bring your Access 25 card and you home institution ID/access card to visit City St George's libraries.
