1 Introduction
City St George's, University of London attaches great importance to adherence to professional, legal and ethical obligations. Every effort has been made to ensure that content made available by the University, online and in print, does not infringe any persons' rights or UK or international laws, including copyright, confidentiality, and data protection.
2 Freedom of speech and academic freedom
2.1 City St George's, University of London, regards freedom of speech and academic freedom to be fundamental to delivering its mission as the University of business, practice and the professions. Its values in this are set out in a code of practice on freedom of speech and academic freedom, which explains how the University will uphold, secure, and promote freedom of speech within the law.
2.2 Nothing in this policy should be interpreted in any way that would be inconsistent with the code of practice and - in the event of any inconsistency - the provisions of the code will prevail.
3 Equality, diversity and inclusion
3.1 City St George's, University of London works to advance equity, diversity and inclusion in its activities, processes, and culture, for the whole University community, including staff, students and visitors.
3.2 The University will meet its obligations under the Equality Act 2010 in its policies and seek to eliminate discrimination on the basis of age, caring responsibilities, disability, gender identity, gender reassignment, marital status, neurodiversity, pregnancy, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, and socio-economic background.
4 Definitions
''Takedown" refers to the withdrawal of material from public access following a complaint or concern relating to copyright or other legal obligations.
5 Policy
5.1 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide a clear process for responding to concerns relating to material made available through City St George's, University of London services and collections.
5.2 Scope
This policy applies to material made available by Library Services through its systems, services, and collections.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- library websites: Clerkenwell and Moorgate campuses; Tooting campus
- institutional repositories, City Research Online; St George's Online Research Archive
- virtual learning environments, Moodle (Clerkenwell and Moorgate campuses); Canvas (Tooting campus)
- library guides
- Archives and Special Collections Clerkenwell and Moorgate campuses; Tooting campus
5.3 Principles
Library Services will respond promptly and fairly to concerns relating to material made available through its systems, services and collections.
5.4 Roles and responsibilities
Staff and students who make material available through the University systems, services, or collections covered by this policy are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights or permissions to do so.
The Copyright Librarian is responsible for administering the takedown procedure under this policy, including receiving claims.
6 Procedure
If you own the copyright in material made available through the systems, services, or collections covered by this policy and believe that it does not fall within a legal exception permitting reuse, or that permission has not been granted, please contact us with the information below. The material will be removed from public access pending investigation of the claim.
You may also contact us if you believe that material made available contravenes any other relevant law.
Information to be provided in the event of a claim:
- your name and contact details
- details of the work in which the alleged infringement appears, including author, title and URL where applicable
- full details of the alleged infringement, including original source of the material, and the basis of the claim
- a Statement that the information provided is accurate and made in good faith.
Please send this information to digilib@citystgeorges.ac.uk.
We will acknowledge your claim, withdraw the work that is the subject of the claim, and investigate, consulting appropriate personnel (including the author, if possible). When we have concluded our investigation, we will communicate our decision to you.
7 Advice and guidance
7.1 For advice and guidance relating to this policy, contact the Copyright Librarian at digilib@citystgeorges.ac.uk.
8 Failure to comply
8.1 Failure to comply with copyright law or other relevant legal obligations may result in material being withdrawn from public access and, where appropriate, may lead to disciplinary action under the appropriate procedures:

9 Review
9.1 This policy will be reviewed every 3 years and updated when appropriate, or as and when the Library Leadership Team considers it necessary.
